H.E. Baraka H. Luvanda Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania in Tokyo, Japan from 28 Sept 2021 todate
H.E. Ambassador Baraka Haran Luvanda assumed on 27 December 2021 the post of Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to Japan, with concurrent accreditation to Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.
Ambassador Luvanda joined the Tanzanian Foreign Service in January 1999, and has served at the Tanzanian Foreign Ministry in the Legal Division, Multilateral Cooperation and Protocol Division before being posted at the Permanent Mission of the United Republic of Tanzania to the United Nations Offices in Geneva and Vienna from 2004 to 2009.
In January 2010, he rejoined the Legal Affairs Unit until August 2012 when he was transferred to the President’s Office as Cabinet Assistant Secretary, the post he held until end of 2012 when he was promoted to the post of Coordinator in the Office of the Chief Secretary, President’s Office.
Mr. Luvanda was appointed in September 2015 to the rank of Ambassador and became the Director of Legal Affairs in Foreign Affairs Ministry, the post he held until April 2017 when he was appointed High Commissioner of the United Republic of Tanzania to India.
Ambassador Luvanda was appointed on 28 September 2021 to the current post of Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to Japan.
Ambassador Luvanda has a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B. Hons.) from the University of Dar es Salaam. He also holds a Master Degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from Geneva School of International Relations and Diplomacy. He has petitioned and appeared before the Tanzania Council for Legal Education and was admitted into the Tanzanian Bar (Roll No. 5072) in July 2015.
Ambassador Luvanda speaks fluently Swahili and English languages and has a working understanding of French.
